Our Story

Team Four is made up of a group of passionate students from across the State of New Jersey, alongside our mentor Mina Basaly. As part of our research project for Governor STEM Scholars, we decided to create a website and several social media pages to increase awareness of healthcare resources for Hispanic communities.

Research Lead

Mina Basaly is a junior at Rutgers University in Computer Science. Mina holds an Associate's in Computer Science from Union College of Union County, where he was awarded the NJ All-State Academic Award. He received his high school diploma from Admiral William F. Halsey Jr. Health & Public Safety Academy in Elizabeth, New Jersey. In his free time, Mina volunteers with the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team.

Krystinna Arevalo is a senior at Jose Marti STEM Academy. She holds numerous leadership positions in her school including president of the Girls Power in STEM club, president of her school’s Science National Honor Society, secretary of the Brain Bee club, and treasurer of the National Social Studies Honor Society. She has also been a research intern at Rutgers University through the American Chemical Society (ACS). Krystinna is passionate about neurological health and hopes to become a physician-scientist to help children with neurological diseases around Latin America.

Michael Domenech is a high school senior who is homeschooled. As a STEM enthusiast, he hopes to study mechanical and aerospace engineering in college. He also has served in the U.S. Air Force auxiliary Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program since 2021, where he has been involved in many STEM education courses, community service events, and leadership programs. Aside from his STEM involvement, he thoroughly enjoys sports such as futsal and climbing.

Anita Lemus Rivera is a senior at Toms River High School North. She has participated in the Waksman Student Scholars Program where she conducted research in molecular biology and bioinformatics and had her results published. At her school, she is the her school's Medical Club president and founder, Book Club president, and National Honor Society Treasurer and participates as a member in other school clubs. She has an interest in Microbiology and Genetics and wants to pursue a career in Biochemical engineering. Outside of STEM, she enjoys to read and crochet gifts for family and friends.

Kayrine Calderon is a senior at Bound Brook High School. She is treasurer of her school’s Social Studies Honor Society and Interact Club, a member of the National Honors Society, and a volunteer at the Somerset County Library. She is also engaged in many other activities in school such as Book Club, Art Club, and Student Council. Kayrine is passionate about Biology, specifically how blood cells work in our bodies led her to develop an interest in Hematology-Oncology. She aspires to major in Molecular Biology on the Pre-Med track and become a Hematologist.

Aaron Simpson is a senior at Atlantic City High School. As a member of the Academic Challenge Club, Science League Club, and his place on AtlantiCare's Youth Advisory Board, he is exposed to a wide array of academic disciplines. In addition, he is a member of the National Honor Society, and plans to serve on the leadership committee. He is an ambassador for the Mark Cuban Foundation AI Bootcamp, where students can learn about the use of artificial intelligence in real world applications. He advised and provided a student perspective on the program to help guide the building of a new, more user-friendly curriculum.
